Hëj guys,
In a recent shocking turn of events, Whovians around the world bid farewell to Amy Pond and Rory Williams, beloved companions to the Doctor.
Personally, I was nearly in tears. And that's mainly because the departure of a companion is always a sad thing, especially when it was Rose. But Rose aside, I really did love the Ponds, as we'll call them. Arguably, they weren't Rose or Donna or Sarah Jane or Martha, but they were still special in some way to every Whovian.
Because who wasn't watching when the Pandorica exploded, when Amy finally got to run away with her 'raggedy Doctor' and when Rory was wearing that Roman centurion outfit?? I definitely was (it's Rory Williams in a historic uniform- what's not to love?), for the simple reason that there was just something about the Ponds that kept us all hooked. And we aren't going to see that in a companion for a long time; and certainly not with the new one.
I'll admit, I wasn't impressed with the introductions I got of new companion, Clara Oswald (also seen as Oswin, the soufflé girl: spoilers). There was nothing wrong at all with the character, really, but soufflés? While there is nothing wrong with a baking passion, does that really need to be a key feature in a companion?
Hopefully when Doctor Who returns, perhaps my view of Clara will change. After all, Jenna-Louise Coleman has got impressively big shoes to fill. To fail to live up to her expectations would be disappointing and yet understandable.
Because who could ever get past the bar that Billie Piper raised?
So it's going to be all eyes on Jenna-Louise Coleman. If you'd like to share your current opinion of Clara/Oswin, leave your tribute to the Ponds or another companion, or suggest a post topic, let me know in the comments below!
