Buonasera guys,
If you've been watching the news on tv or the Facebook news feed, you'll have noticed that there has been a major outcry about the suicide of Amanda Todd. If you haven't heard of what happened, it's advisable that you look it up.
To sum things up in a few words; she sent a topless picture to a guy she met online and trusted, he wanted more and blackmailed her, which led to the picture circulating the Internet. She lost her friends, got anxiety and depression , did drugs and alcohol, started cutting, then drank bleach and was sent to hospital. And it gets worse: she moves schools, intentionally hooks up with one of her guy friends who has a girlfriend, people get mad, attack her, guy does nothing, she moves schools, hate follows her… And after more bad stuff, the end isn't happy.
Let's just think for a moment: what makes the suicide of Amanda Todd so noteworthy? Other than the fact that she's been bullied, done drugs, Internet topless picture scandals and a whole bunch of other dramatic and unfortunate events: why is she, a girl who some have called 'slut', so important? After all, don't countless other teenagers self harm? Get bullied? Drive themselves to drugs? Commit suicide? The facts are that Amanda Todd is just another statistic: this kind of stuff happens every day.
My personal opinion is that while it is tragic that she died, it is ridiculous the amount of media attention that this is getting. And Amanda was not a slut. She made a bad decision and trusted someone who turned out to be a (horrible swearword).
I'm not going to try to preach to you all, because you make your own decisions, opinions and choices yourself, but listen: Be nice to everyone, because you don't know who's on the verge of suicide. Try not to be too judgmental, because are you perfect yourself? And also: don't trust everyone you meet online.
If you thought that was too preachy or if you have any comments on the suicide of Amanda Todd or if you have a post idea, let me know in the comments below.
That's all folks, Vivmarie1407
Media these days are crazy. They find any story just to keep their jobs. I think the producers of channel 9/7 and other stuff should go burn in hell.
ReplyDeleteAmanda Todd was stupid but that just proves how warped the world is these days. The media should focus on important things like how millions of children are starving and in the time it has taken you to read this at least four children have been sold into the sex trade. You don't hear about these things but you hear about idiot teenagers.
